The Break Up

Google Reader and I used to be soclose. It all began the day I found this and our relationship blossomed into something beautiful and intimate. Google Reader was there to tend to my neediness. All my beloved blogger friends in one spot and with the addition of Grease Monkey, our threesome was complete. I would click on Google Reader, and there was the post in a preview window, with a comment box, so I could easily and quickly leave behind my comment love.

Then the dreaded happened. Google Reader went all psycho bitch on me. First came the innocent upgrade. Well, Google Reader was good, so an update must be BETTER. Hrmppph. Not so at all.

Google Reader is now just another plain old reader with no preview window and no comment box. Oh sure it's fast, like quickie sex, the only rules are no rules, click read, move on. Like WHAM BAM, but no thank you ma'am.

It's all about comments, don't fool yourselves, we're all a little bit comment whore whether we like to admit it or not. Me, I admit, I am ALL comment whore. 100%.

So Google Reader, like so many in my life, you have failed me. I'm horribly disappointed, but I will survive and as in the past, I WILL be stronger as a result of this. I will continue to use you and abuse you, but I understand now what a tease you really are.

Google Reader, I'm willing to give you a chance at redemption, find some IT person out there in Bloggyland and have them call my people so we can repair this and once again frolick in the warm glow of blog reading, or pack your shit and be gone!

Since I got a blog and google reader a bit late in the game I never knew that you could comment directly from the reader. I did however see a few blogs that had links at the bottom of the post. I later found out that it was a feature of feedburner http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/home called feed flare. This will put those links in at the end of the post. It also includes those links in any e-mail subscriptions that they also provide.

Feedburner is now a part of google, so I would suggest signing up for it and encourage others to do the same so the same features you learned to love can continue.

Funny post! I am new to Google Reader, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I never used google reader, and now I know why, google reader = man.

I think the reason they did that was to build up ad revenue from those people using their other product, google adsense. If you HAVE to visit the site to comment then you get more ads.

Maybe not, but I'm willing to be it has SOMETHING to do with making Googlea profit in some way.
