Disney's Maleficent

Disclaimer: We received complementary admission to the movie, all opinions are my own.

The Moor hath no fury like a fairy scorned!

Finally, a fairy tale that explains what happened to make the villainess so evil.

"Maleficent" explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty" and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.

Whynot and I saw the movie and thought the 3D special effects were pretty cool. But a warning to parents of small children IMO this is not a movie for them. There's some scary stuff here and a bit of violence. So use your discretion.

Straight Talk on Straight Teeth - Invasilign #ad

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post, opinions are my own.

This is my beautiful GlitterGurl.

Notice that million dollar smile!

This was not always the case with my pretty girl. I don't have permission to share her before picture, but trust me when I say she was a hot mess. You see, GlitterGurl was a thumb a sucker.

So even before she had her braces installed she needed a palate expander. Which is a device that widens the roof of the mouth to make room for permanent teeth. The thumb sucking created a very narrow palate and caused some major overcrowding of her teeth. Once the expander was installed it had to be widened gradually over the course of several months.

Then came the braces!

Metal wired braces.

Along with weekly visits to the orthondontist.

And restrictions!
  • No gum chewing
  • No hard foods
  • No sticky foods
  • Remember to floss

Oh and what a pain in the butt THAT was. In between brackets and wires. Poor girl had to thread the floss through a loop and insert between each and every wire!

We should have bought stock in the little wax packets she needed to apply to the brackets so they wouldn't cut up the inside of her mouth, and even then it didn't always work.

But her biggest complaint was THEY. WERE. UGLY!

What if I told you there was now an option to straighten teeth without metal braces?

Invisalign Teen clear aligners are removable and can straighten teeth without a mouth full of metal and wires. They're virtually invisible!

Teens can play sports without fear of injury and continue cheerleading, musical instruments, acting and singing without interference. Because it's removable, brushing and flossing is easy and no food restrictions to worry about either.

Invisalign Teen eliminates emergency ortho visits for broken wires and brackets and requires fewer appointments since several aligner sets are provided in advance.

Yet Invisalign Teen is just as effective as traditional wire and bracket braces and can effectively treat a wide variety of orthodontic issues including severe bite issues. From underbite to crossbite, deepbite to overbite and overly crowded to widely spaced, advancements to Invisalign's patented technology continues to increase the complexity of issues that can be treated.

Your teens Invisalign treatment won't break the bank either!  The cost of Invisalign is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces and many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign just as they would braces.

Did you know that The American Association of Orthodontics recommends taking children for their first orthodontic check-‐up no later than age 7. The American Dental Association says this is because, “Your child’s dentist can spot problems with emerging teeth and jaw growth early on, while the primary teeth are present.”

Take a look at this informative infographic to help you understand all the steps involved on the path to getting your child's teeth straightened.

Visit the invisalign website for more information.

While you're there, select "findadoctor" to locate experienced Invisalign and Invisalign Teen providers in your area.

Have you or someone you’ve known used Invisalign? And if so, what was their experience?

Sun Safety - Your Guide to Sunscreen

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post for Whole Foods Market Paradise Valley. All opinions are my own

Summer is right around the corner and most likely that means you and your family will be spending more time outdoors . . . fun in the sun, right?

But that fun in the sun can be damaging to your skin without protection and choosing the right sunscreen can be so overwhelming. So. Many. Choices.

Recently I attended a very informative event at Whole Foods Paradise Valley, where I learned some great tips about choosing the right sunscreen.

First let's talk about SPF. Just the mention of numbers makes some people break out in hives. Let me simplify it. SPF 30 is sufficient for most people. The smart thing to do is reapply. Frequently. As in about every 90 minutes, more frequently if you're in the water. If you're highly sensitive to the sun you might want to choose a higher SPF.

You'll also want to look for a broad spectrum sun screen which offers protection from both UVB (the ones that cause sunburn) and UVA rays (the ones which can cause skin cancer).

Sunscreen won't help if you don't use it correctly. Apply about 20 minutes before you go outside, it takes that long to absorb into your skin. Don't skimp! Most people don't use enough sunscreen. You'll need about 2 tablespoons to cover your entire body. Pay extra attention to the tips of your ears, your feet and the back of your legs.

Since you don't want to pay more than you have to for a good sunscreen, I'm letting you know that from May 23–26, all sun care is 30% off at all Whole Foods Market stores in the US and Canada. Find a store near you here.

Netflix Stream Team - A Salute to Memorial Day

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.

In addition to streaming Netflix on my TV and computer, as a member of the Netflix Stream Team I am able to enjoy DVD rentals as well. I create a list, called a rental queue, of movies to rent and they are sent to me via US Mail. When my most recent movie arrived, the envelope really caught my attention and being that next week we celebrate Memorial Day I'd like to share the message here.

Today, it's All Quiet on the Western Front
because of the Brave Band of Brothers
who fought valiantly to protect this country.

Armed with a Full Metal Jacket
and a backpack filled with courage,
the US soldiers responsible for
Saving Private Ryan
taught us all to appreciate the freedom
we all too often take for granted.

So we take a moment to honor
those who perished at Pearl Harbor
and made it a Good Morning Vietnam
by saying thank you for enduring
 The Longest Day
so that our children would never have to.

There you go readers, your list of Memorial Day themed movies. Because we all know that although Memorial Day is the official kickoff of summer activities, it's almost a guarantee that it will rain!

Disney's Million Dollar Arm

Based on a true story, sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) finds that business has changed and things aren’t going well for his career. In a last ditch effort to save his livelihood he concocts a scheme to find baseball’s next great pitching ace.

Hoping to find a young cricket pitcher he can turn into a major league baseball star, JB travels to India to produce a reality show competition called “The Million Dollar Arm.” With the help of cantankerous but eagle-eyed retired baseball scout Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin), he discovers Dinesh (played by Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (played by Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”), two 18-year-old boys who have no idea about playing baseball, yet have a knack for throwing a fastball.

Hoping to sign them to major league contracts and make a quick buck, JB brings the boys home to America to train. While the Americans are definitely out of their element in India, the boys, who have never left their rural villages, are equally challenged when they come to the States.

As the boys learn the finer points of baseball, JB, with the help of his charming friend Brenda (Lake Bell), learns valuable life lessons about teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family.
