Meme Dropout

I got picked by Mamahut and Amy as one of 10 in this meme.

Rule 1. List the first ten people who have commented on one of your blog posts.

Rule 2. The meme questions:

10 Blogs, 15 Questions.

What is your favorite post from #3's blog?

Has #10 taken any pictures that have moved you?

Does #6 reply to comments on their blog?

Which part of Blogland is #2 from?

If you could give one piece of advice to #7 what would it be?

Have you ever tried something from #9's blog?

Has #1 blogged something that inspired you?

How often do you comment on #4's blog?

Do you wait excitedly for #8 to post?

How did #5's blog change your life?

Do you know any of your 10 bloggers in person?

Do any of your 10 know each other?

Out of the 10, which updates more frequently?

Which of the 10 keep you laughing?

Which of the 10 made you cry (good or bad) tears?

Yup, I got picked by 2 bloggers and I was soooo excited, I thought I had the brain power today to do this and I sat down and started and realized that at least 20 bloggers have already been picked and that limited my choices. Then my brain started to hurt, because it does that sometimes when I am stressed or just plain stupid, I would have said retarded, but that is politically incorrect and I mean no offense to anyone, I'm just saying. Maybe it's the lack of estrogen that makes my brain hurt.

Yeah estrogen, what's today? Tuesday? My period is like 10 days late. There's absolutely no chance that I'm pregnant, I don't' think, but I will surely let you know if I need to change my name to Mary. Don't even say it! Don't say it, don't.......ugh you said it! Perimenopause.

I have a million things on my mind. My dear friend called yesterday, very early, very unusual for her and I knew what she intended to tell me as soon as she said hello. You see I woke up at 1:03 am to pee, sorry, TMI, but important to the plot. Then when I woke up for the day at 5:20 I said to myself, "oh I must call Dear Friend and wish her an early Happy Thanksgiving" She always calls me on Thanksgiving and we won't be home and I'm not sure she has my cell number. Then at 7 am the phone rang and I knew it was bad news. Her father had passed away at 1:06 am. Spingles a little? Yeah the hair on my neck is still standing up.

My day just got better and better, SIL called, my step sister's husband has brain cancer and just 6 months to live. Whynot's Cub friend texted to say please pray for my step dad he had a CAT scan and the Dr said to come in Tuesday to talk about it. Yeah, they never say come in when it's good news.

I have a million and 47 things to do before 5 ish on Wednesday, when we leave for The Ranch. I'll be lucky if I get THREE things done. At the very least I have to clean the pig pens or the house is gonna smell horrendous when we get back. Which leads to one more item on the to do list, take out the garbage too. And I still have to get to Jewel to buy some Gancia Spumante.

So with many apologies and deep regret, I am bowing out of this Meme. But it's up there for anyone who wants it.

Tomorrow I'll be packing and running around like a headless chicken, so I may not have time to post. I'd like to take this moment to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Count your blessings and be thankful for what you have, I know I am.

The Moment You've All Been Waiting For

Sad as it makes me, it's time for Platey to move on. I had 30 original commentators, some were entered more than once as they commented more than once, 2 bloggers requested NOT to be sent the plate and one I knew for sure would never make it to the post office to mail Platey next. So the little raffle sheets went into an old winter hat and I picked.........

Drum roll please......

The plate will be traveling to Vodka Mom. Vodka Mom please email me with your mailing address and I will ship The Traveling Plate asap. You in turn need to:

Put your breakfast on it (please, nothing healthy) and post it to your blog. Make sure to give Cheryl, Georgie and me a mention. Have some fun with it too, if that's your thing. I know I did.

You know the drill...mix up those names of people who comment in a hat and let it go...

And for those of you sulking because you didn't win, I have a small token of appreciation for all of you. Today's Redbox code is 2mnc92.

Oh Edward!

OMG! Twilight has been in theaters for 46 hours and I haven't seen it yet. And guess what? I'm still alive to tell about it LOL.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself, don't hate me.

I haven't read the book yet either, so I really have no clue what all the hype is about. And Edward, he looks to be about as old as my son, to me that's just icky! I cannot fathom fantasizing about someone that close in age to someone I gave birth to. It just doesn't work for me.

Give me the James Bond type, although not sure if I like this new one, Daniel Craig. I love Sean Connery, and Pierce Brosnan too. But Robert Pattinson, holy cow, I just checked, the boy is more than a year younger than my son! That's robbing the cradle IMO and he's gonna be quick on the draw. Plus he needs a haircut.

Sighhhhhh, I guess I'll just stick with Whynot, he doesn't bite.

More Adventures of The Traveling Plate on The Avenue

Last night after Platey went potty,

and took a shower,

it spent a little time surfing the internet and became quite disappointed and saddened by the response to the raffle being held in it's honor.

I tucked Platey in with the rest of the fine china we use here on The Avenue and told it that all would work out just fine.

This morning I woke up to THIS!

Poor Platey, trying to drown it's sorrows. Things are looking up though, there have been several more entries and Platey is happier. Should be, it finished off my nice cheap bottle of Riesling!

Request Platey at your own risk, it may have a slight drinking problem.

Dear Readers

I feel that someone has sabotaged my comments. I think I know who it is. Is she paying you not to comment for the plate raffle? I'll double whatever she paid you (in Monopoly money) and raise her 5 cents. Come on people I know you want the plate.

The plate wants to travel, it wants to see the world. The plate dreams of warmer weather than I can offer in J-Town, where the current temp is a frigid 19! The plate wants to see the sights and J-Town doesn't have much to offer. The plate craves some excitement. Aruba, (too late, Jill left already) Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahama, Key Largo, Montego, hell it would settle for Kokoma, Indiana at this point.

Comment, please...I'm begging now, on my hands and knees, and my husband is getting the wrong idea. Come on!

Breakfast With The Traveling Plate

As you may know I am currently the keeper of The Traveling Plate and the keeper of the plate must post a picture of the plate with breakfast on it. Oh and it must not be something healthy. So here you have a VERY unhealthy breakfast on The Traveling Plate. So unhealthy that perhaps it may even be fatal! Unless you're a dog, in which case have at it. Over the years my now dearly departed canine friends have snacked on lots of plastic.

Pictured is a lovely piece of cake with chocolate frosting, an apple and banana (very unhealthy versions of each), a pink donut, a waffle, two kinds of eggs, a slice of cheese and BACON!! You know this is special, I've included bacon. IN. MY. HOME. Calorie count.....zero!

You can play along and be the next keeper of the plate, just leave a comment here or here. Don't forget I'm originally from Chicago, so bribery just may get you what you want, a greased palm is a happy palm.

So My Doorbell Just Rang

and you'll never believe who it was!

Steve, yes the Mailman's name is Steve, left a letter......We just got a letter! We just got a letter!

The Traveling Plate has arrived safely in J-Town! Georgie sent it to me, she got it from Cheryl, and I too will have to part with the beautiful plate, when I am damn good and ready soon.

Welcome little red plate, I'm going to do everything I can to make your visit a pleasant one. You've missed lunch, but TOF will be up soon and it will be snack time. I must have known you would arrive today, because I actually remembered to thaw something for dinner. Do you like chicken? I know, I know, you're a breakfast plate, but you can watch us eat. Then in the morning I'll whip up something fabulous!

So here's what's going to happen:

Leave a comment if you want to get in on the plate passing.

I will then take the names of the bloggers who comment on this post and mix them up in an old winter hat...then I'll pick one name. ( I guess Platey doesn't like Random Integer Generator, that should be some story, I'll ask)

The chosen one will get the plate.

When you get the plate, put your breakfast on it (please, nothing healthy) and post it to your blog. Make sure to give Cheryl, Georgie and me a mention.

You know the drill...mix up those names of people who comment in a hat and let it go...

Sound like fun? Wanna play? Join Us...

P.S. There was also a Christmas card from Georgie included with the plate, my very 1st this season. Thank you! And another little something, but you'll have to check back to read about that tomorrow. (hehe a good way to suck you back in) (besides you have to come back to see pictures of the breakfast) (and to see if YOU'RE the next lucky contestant on The Traveling Plate)

Oh My Aching Everything.

Morning. Grumble rumble. I'm tired and achy. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet. I fell asleep at 7:30 last night, until 9 p.m. Got up to watch CSI and headed back to bed at 11 p.m. It may have something to do with the kindly gentleman sitting behind me at the Hawks game, hacking up his left lung.

I don't have time to be sick.

Before I jump in the nice hot shower I have a plea. TOF didn't make the final 20 for this contest, but I got the following email:

Okay, friends and family, I need your vote to win $500 in groceries. I recently entered a picture of Camryn in a contest and she has been selected as one of the 20 finalists!! But, the only way to win is to have THE MOST votes!!! So please go to my blog and click on the link there to go vote!! The links will be underlined - just put your cursor over them and click! If you have any problems email me and I will send a link directly!!
Also, if you wouldn't mind sending this on to other people that you think might vote PLEASE send it on!!! I'd love to win this contest!!!! Only ONE vote per computer. So if you have access to two computers please vote on both of them! LOL!!! If you are at work and have others there close by- have them vote as well!
I love you all!!! Thank you so much!
Dawn

So head over to Dawn's Diversions and cast your vote for Camryn.

Have a great day, I'll be back when I think of something else to say.

Saving Some Green

Go watch a movie on me. Well kind of, I'll supply the Redbox code. Thanks to My Penny Pile for today's Redbox code.

57DRW3

It expires at midnight Nov 17th. Find a Redbox here.

Come back tomorrow and tell me what you saw.

TOF is a little too young, but perhaps you have a 3-9 year old that would enjoy Yukon Express 700-Piece Building Logs Set.

It's marked down from $49.99 and ships FREE! I know some of you have little boys, Lincoln Logs are classic toys that never go out of style. PLUS, they don't need batteries! Thanks to Mir, finder of all deals great and wonderful.

I'm still kicking myself for not seeing the Britax car seat at Target for $43 with free shipping. Grrrrr, but my friend Rebekah managed to get one for her son last night, so I'm happy for her.

Leave a little comment love and let me know what you are looking for, I'll see if I can help out. I love love love spending other people's money.

Edited to exclude Lincoln Logs, as these are NOT official Lincoln Logs. Sorry for the confusion.

Just a Bunch of Bull...

...ets.

A weekend update and more, brought to you by our fine sponsors.

  • I learned some new vocab this weekend. Splooge and bobo. Curious to see how many Google weirdos that sends over.
  • Won over $25 million in various Nigerian lotteries. Don't worry, as soon as the cash hits my mailbox I will share with everyone.
  • Augie Dawgs and I hit a Craft Show at one of the local high schools. I bought a bracelet for GlitterGurl and some ornaments. One being for the exchange, but now I'm having second thoughts. Is it good enough, will she like it? Maybe I should just by another.
  • My package for the SSS is sealed, I just have to trek to the post office. I sure hope she likes it. I'll cry if she doesn't. I really put a lot of thought into it. Dear SSS partner, if you hate it, please lie. Please.
  • After the craft fair, we all hit the road to beautiful Ottawa. The land that time forgot. If anyone from Ottawa is reading, I jest, honestly, your little town is wonderful. If no one from Ottawa is reading, then oh. my. hell. Seriously, Ottawa is great, for now. But in a few weeks when Value City is out of business (oh God I am so sad about this) it will be so empty. Thankfully Farm and Fleet is there and a SuperWalmart that still carries fabric and gas at the BP is $1.94! That is not a typo!!!!
  • Another exciting Saturday night for me and Whynot. After our romantic dinner of hot dogs at Portillo's, we headed over to Augie's for brownies and coffee, and to see the new TV mounted on the wall. That Whynot, he sure knows how to woo me.
  • All that excitement had me up at 6am, ughh, on a Sunday! I decided to start sewing the little aprons/smocks I decided to make as gifts. I'll have picture later, for now I have to keep typing before TOF stirs.
  • Sunday morning brought our usual breakfast. Scrumptious omelets made by Arethea, and more bacon than I thought it was humanly possible to consume. I'll eat it, I won't cook it!
  • After breakfast, Whynot and I had a sudden surge of energy and we rushed home to........oh stop, get your mind out of the gutter, we cleaned the house! We really got a lot accomplished and finally put away the summer stuff and hauled out the last of the sweatshirts and sweaters. Brr it's cold out.
  • All that cleaning made us hungry again, so we drove here and Sam made cheezeborgers for us.
  • After dinner we walked here and although the Blackhawks scored more points than the Bears, they too LOST!
Which brings us to Monday morning and more adventures on The Avenue. I see I won another book from Julie, woohoo! Go give leave her comment and see if you can score a vampire book. Have a great day everyone!

Ungrateful Hag

Yup, that would be me. Bowing my head in shame. I should probably repeat all of this in Georgie's Confessional later too. With my sincerest belated apologies, I have some super bloggers to mention today.

While perusing the internet, I like that word, it makes me feel like I'm being productive while I sit here reading blogs and eating bon bons all day long. Sorry, I was distracted, a few weeks back, while web surfing I stumbled upon and entered a few contests. I love me a good contest, especially one where I AM THE WINNER!

Peggy S. Vincent, Owner/Designer of Comfy Cozy, Inc emailed me almost a month ago, (again I profusely apologize Peggy) with the news of my good fortune. I was the winner of this awesome prize. She was even so kind as to personalize the pillowcase for one of my little friends, who is celebrating a birthday soon. Thank you Peggy, she's going to love it, I love it. It will surely bring many nights of sweet dreams. Peggy is having a SALE thru Dec 5th, these pillowcases are 50% off. Before you say a "PILLOWCASE", be creative, use it as wrapping for other gifts, that's what I plan on doing. It's personalized, so everyone knows who it's for, save on a gift tag. Tie it off with a hair bow for a girl and you're all set.

Did I say HAIR BOW? Well, well, I certainly did. Somebody slap me, I almost feel like a bad infomercial. Sorry. Perhaps you've noticed the I heart Bowheads logo I've been sporting. Holly participated in the Bloggy Carnival a few weeks back and offered her hair bows to contestants who linked back to her. Count me in for a freebie, FREE, SALE and FOOD are in my top 100 favorite four letter words. Thank you Holly, I'm giving the pink and brown little princess bow to the same little girl and she's going to be thrilled!

Desperately Wanted

Some of the side effects of Hypothyroidism are:

Severe fatigue, loss of energy, persistent sleepiness Check
Weight gain, difficulty losing weight Check
Depressed mood Check
Joint and muscle pain Check
Dry skin, brittle nails and hair, thinning hair Check
Irregular periods nnn not so much
Fuzzy thinking or difficulty concentrating, loss of libido, and puffiness in the face or extremities. Is that a nice way of saying getting FAT (ter)?

Other symptoms include intolerance to cold, Check and mate!

I'm not ready for it to be cold out yet - nor will I ever be ready for it - so I'm throwing this out there hoping someone has a bit of summer left, hiding in their closet or under their bed, maybe way in the back of the basement behind the Christmas stuff. Please share.

Go do something nice for someone to warm up their insides, because we all need some more of that summer heat.

If this post, made you smile and warmed up your insides on this chilly morning, then I did my job.

Again, if you have any summer left, please let me know, I can pick up ASAP, or you can send it COD.

Thanks.

You Should Skip

Ughh another rainy day here on The Avenue and I woke up with a headache, thank goodness he left for work a few minutes ago. Ha, I crack me up. No really I woke up with a killer headache and I was GRUMPY!

Then I read this, more specifically this part "You should skip. You might like it." Right there my attitude changed, I couldn't be grumpy anymore. I envisioned TOF waking up in an hour or so ready for the world. At least the world according to TOF.

TOF's world is seldom grumpy, the child is always happy. He rarely cried as an infant. He was and is surrounded by people who love him. He wakes up and immediately starts his negotiations. Today he walked over to the fridge and pulled out chocolate pudding and a gallon of milk. "No TOF, chocolate pudding is for snack this afternoon, not breakfast. Let's have a waffle and sausages instead." "Ok Mema." Oh if only all negotiations went this smoothly. My work would be child's play, wait it is.

So today we will dance and sing off key. We'll make a craft and color some. If the rain lets up, we'll head outside for a few minutes, fresh air is good for you, even cold fresh air. We'll skip too, because it's fun. You should try it sometime!

A Bit of History

Ninety years ago, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month an armistice was signed to end World War I. It was to be declared a national holiday to commemorate those individuals in the armed forces that served during the war.

In 1953, Al King, a shoe store owner from Kansas, began a campaign to change the day to honor ALL Veterans. President Dwight D Eisenhower signed the bill in 1954 and Congress officially changed the name to Veterans Day as it has been known ever since.

Please take a moment today to reflect and give thanks to those who served and made huge sacrifices for this great country. Display your flag proudly and if you see a Vet, don't be shy, tell him or her thanks. It'll mean the world to them.

NaBloPoMo Failure

For those of you living under a bloggy rock, NaBloPoMo is National Blog Posting Month. You blog everyday for the entire month of November. Simple enough right? Pfft...

I considered signing up, but I already knew this would just be one more thing to add to my long list of failures and or uncompleted tasks. And a long list it is, you see I have this thing called a life, sorry as it is, it comes with it's own extensive list of requirements.

I often wonder what it is I do everyday that keeps me so busy. I spin wheels, I take one step forward to take two or seventy eleven steps back. Halloween is behind me, Thanksgiving is approaching and Jenni, oh thoughtful Jenni reminds me daily how many days until the Fat Guy cometh. Forty six days today if you must know.

FORTY SIX days people!! I have my Secret Santa package all set to be mailed. Well not exactly, I have items in a box, while I think of a creative way, an over the top way to make my package stand out, because that's just how I am. I'll end up just wrapping it up and mailing it off to a person who lives on a Lane and hope for the best. I have an ornament to purchase for the ornament exchange and send off to my swap partner who lives on a Road.

I'm not planning Thanksgiving dinner this year. Even though I've passed the hat to Augie Dawgs and we technically eat at her house, I still have to do most of the preparations. Not this year! I'm off to visit Big Brother, the SIL and Babcia (my mom) on The Ranch. This year I will be in charge of nothing. Well I'll volunteer to do the dishes, because let's face it, to this city girl that is far more appealing than mucking stalls and doing whatever it is you do to horses! Oh and I will eat bacon! Because SIL fries up bacon and it doesn't frighten her in the least bit.

Which brings me back to what the heck is it that I do all day, that keeps me so busy?? So busy that I can't blog every day during the month of November! Who's idea was November? In my opinion February would be a much better month for this challenge. February, you know, the short month. The one where you'd only have to blog 28 posts. The month where it's so cold here on The Avenue that there is nothing to do but blog.

So today, November 9th, 2008 AD...in my warped little mind, I declare that NaBloPoMo be moved to February, for me at least.

I will continue to spend the month of November spinning wheels and checking with Jenni for the official countdown.

Change Has Come

Congratulations Barack......May I call you Barack, Mr President?

Four years ago I heard this eloquent man speak and I said, "hmmm, the Democratic Party is grooming him for the presidency in 2012 or 2016." I never thought that in 4 short years my prediction would become a reality. A reality over 40 years in the making, when another man had a dream.

A dream of a future where blacks and whites and all races would coexist as equals. That people would not be judged by color, but by character. That this great nation would rise up and live true to it's creed that all men and women are created equal.

Now more than ever, we must come together for the greater good of all. We must set aside prejudice, hatred, and discrimination. It's been a long time coming, but change has come to America.

Obama's historic victory brings expectations. He has given us hope. He has promised to deliver change and to make our lives better. His words in part are what got him elected. In the next 4 years we'll learn if President Obama is a man true to his words.

Godspeed Mr President! And God bless America, where all things are possible.

I Voted!

Oh yes, I dragged my sorry ass outta bed at 5:30 and was out the door at 5:50, with coffee in hand. There were 30 people standing in the dark outside the polling place. I've never been there before the poll opens. The 1st three people in line had CHAIRS! Awesome I could vote and get Hannah Montana tickets all in one shot. At precisely 5:59 am, some guy, I assume an election judge ?? came out and said, "Hear ye, hear ye, the polls are now open." It was so official. I felt a twinge of patriotism.

The line moved quickly and smoothly, they were prepared for the approximately 80% turn out they expect today. Largest since 1908...ah a good year, the last one my beloved Cubbies won a World Series.

I saw several people I knew, Augie Dawg and The Neighbor and a few others from down the street, all performing their civic duty today. I was back in my car at 6:22, the sun was out, signaling a new beginning. A fresh start. One can hope.

But nag dabbit! I never got a sticker! Or those Hannah Montana tickets!

Did you vote? What are you waiting for?

Go VOTE!

Monday, Monday So Good to Me

I don't have much for ya. Halloween has come and gone, the weather was b-u-t full. The new couches came Friday. YAY, I'll take some pics as soon as I fold this laundry. I installed a new layout. You like? I want a different header. I asked Leah to help and she was kind enough to tell me what to do. Unfortunately, when I read her email, it either said "haerau afaieui afkejar afkjahwe uiearf hfa erh aer awegrg" or I'm just dumb that way.

Whynot and I pulled the gawd awful shrubs out from in front of the house yesterday and to celebrate we burned them in the fire pit last night while having beers with the neighbors. The neighbors who have been trying to adopt for THREE years. The neighbors who will be referred to on this blog as THE NEIGHBORS. The neighbors who have finally given up on adoption agency #1 and are now pursuing Russian adoption. So if anyone knows anything about Russian adoption, give a holler.

Called the school district this morning to have TOF evaluated. I suspect he is a tad delayed in his speech and that is causing a HUGE amount of frustration for him. They can screen him next month. I set up the appointment and told Augie she needs to take the day off. I'm bossy that way.

I'm going to leave you with these dealies and start folding laundry before TOF wakes up from nap. Please don't forget to vote tomorrow, do it the Chicago way, "vote early and vote often" Thanks Uncle Al.
