Emerald City Theatre continues its 16th season with the opening of Snow White as Performed by Professor TJ Barker's Troupe of Theatricals written and directed by Producing Artistic Director Ernie Nolan. Disney on Ice Mickey and Minnie's Magical Journey-Review

Mickey, Minnie, Goofy. 

That's Disney talk for we came , we saw, we loved.

Wednesday night, we were treated to a delightful rendition of our beloved Disney characters on skates. This time it was all of our favorites from Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch, and Peter Pan.

I especially loved the scenes where Lilo talked about the importance of family.  It just made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside.  Feld really knows how to put on a production that everyone will love, from the youngest family members, right down to the grammas and grandpas.  Who can't help but tap their feet to the beat of Elvis?

I couldn't help but notice the two little girls sitting near us.  They were so excited about seeing Ariel and Tinkerbell, I could hear them squealing.

Opening Tonight-Disney On Ice Presents Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey

We're ready!  And so excited to be heading to the United Center in Chicago later tonight for Mickey and Minnie's Magical Journey.  We've never been disappointed with a Disney on Ice presentation.  The skating is so well choreographed, it's just a delightful show for young and old.

Did you know that it takes 10-12 hours to set up the production?  But only 3-5 to tear it down.  Reminds me a little of decorating for Christmas.  They haul all that stuff in 13 trucks!

I'm looking forward to seeing all the beautiful costumes.  Each character changes costumes an average of 4 times per show.  That's a total of 220 costumes. No wonder they travel with 3 sets of washers and dryers!

He Puts the Monster in MonsterJam-A Review

I know, I know!  You're not supposed to compare children, but TC, he is not his brother.  The child does not sit still.  Ever.  He's a poster child for active boys.  We took him to the circus.  As a result he was not invited to the ice show.  We ran into a little problem with Monster Jam, we all wanted to go, meaning there was no one to leave TC at home with.  Gracy and Bella are wonderful pups and all, but it's just too difficult to change diapers without opposable thumbs.  We had to bring the monster little love muffin with us. 

Durwood bought the boys some head phone type ear protectors and they had been practicing wearing them at home.  We settled into our seats and TOF obediently put his head gear on.  TC, um yeah, not so cooperative and he wanted to move around.  He started out on his mother's lap and moved to Whynot's lap where he jiggled to the floor and I gagged a little.  Durwood scooped him up and tried again with the ear phones.  Success!  The show was just about to begin so we whipped out the fruit snacks and the binkie.  Oh shush, I don't want to hear it.  We do whatever we have to, to keep the child quiet.  If he's 14 and still wants a binkie, so be it, at least he's quiet.

And lo and behold, the heavens opened and the angels sang and the child sat, quietly.  Mesmerized by the action in the arena.  Every time I looked over he was awestruck and clapping at the big trucks as they smashed cars in their path.

At barely seventeen months old, I'm pretty sure TC was the youngest fan there.  He has found his niche and is well on his way to becoming a gearhead.

The moral of this story....you won't know until you try and try you must.  We all had a very enjoyable time and Whynot has already asked me if we'll be invited to go again next year.

In a few weeks, we'll pack up the caravan and head up northwest to the Allstate Arena, for Monster Jam; where over 100 trucks, including Grave Digger, will compete at this roaring event.  Every time TOF sees the commercial he mentions how much he'd like to go see the monster trucks.  Unknown to him, Mema has already secured tickets and is actively searching online for protective ear covers.

 Here's a few fun facts about those trucks:

• At Monster Jam, monster trucks face off in two different forms of competition -- side-by-side racing and freestyle.

• 2007 was the 25 year anniversary for the Grave Digger Team

• More than 4 million Monster Jam fans attend events each year worldwide

• The World Finals in Las Vegas, NV brings 24 of the top trucks in the world to compete for the World Freestyle and Racing Championships. Competitors are by invitation only.

• A monster truck race team will travel 45,000 Miles / 72,400 kilometers a year by land to attend events.

It'll be TOF's first ice show.  I hope he'll be as excited as I am.

I know that Glitter Gurl is excited.  Because of her work schedule, she often doesn't get the chance to attend these events, but she's cleared her evening and can't wait to see Buzz, Woody and the gang.

Selfish bunch that we are, we've opted to leave TC home with his Dahddee.  He's a handful to put it mildly.  Cute, but a handful.
