A Bit of History

Ninety years ago, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month an armistice was signed to end World War I. It was to be declared a national holiday to commemorate those individuals in the armed forces that served during the war.

In 1953, Al King, a shoe store owner from Kansas, began a campaign to change the day to honor ALL Veterans. President Dwight D Eisenhower signed the bill in 1954 and Congress officially changed the name to Veterans Day as it has been known ever since.

Please take a moment today to reflect and give thanks to those who served and made huge sacrifices for this great country. Display your flag proudly and if you see a Vet, don't be shy, tell him or her thanks. It'll mean the world to them.

  1. I probably wont see anyone since I likely will not leave the house today, but in my heart I thank each and everyone of them for ALL they did and do for us. We owe them so much, but all I have are my thanks.

  6. In response to your question about Yuna's name.

When I tell you the origin of her name you are going to have total confirmation of what a super geek I am. :-D

Her name is from a video game.

I'll give you a moment to catch your breath from laughing - as most people do.

Yes, it is from a video game. A playstation game in fact called Final Fantasy X. My ex and I played the game together and both fell in love with the main character's name: Yuna.

I try and liken it to finding a name in a story book, or a movie, but people still laugh when they find out.

I must tell you though, I wanted to give her the full name of Yunalesca. But I was told by countless people while I was pregnant, that Yuna was weird enough, I didn't need to go totally overboard.

I hope that when she gets older she loves her name as much as I do. If not, she can go with her middle name, which is Victoria :-D
